When the Shutoral forces landed on Earth to reclaim it, they brought with them their own currency - the Deutsch Kredit. Obviously this was spurned by the people that the SDR was supposed to be liberating, although it did become a common trading currency for those having to deal with the SDR.

However the Mercenaries responded by releasing their currency, which was followed by the Shutoral 'Hearts and Minds' campaign currency, which was in turn followed by more Mercenary denomination notes.

The 'Hearts and Minds' Campaign:

In an attempt to undermine the growing financial and popular support of the Independent Mercenary Army (IMA) and its allies the combined Oceana Defence Committee (ODC), the Shutoral government authorised the release of the so called "hearts and minds" credit note. The 200 unit was valued not in the usual deutsch kredit, but in a new currency standard designated "universal credit", valid in both Shutoral and resistance controlled areas. The note, featuring a Sturmkruezer and the words "Shutoral - Protecting The Planet" served an additional propaganda purpose promoting the concept of the Shutoral as liberators, not invaders.

Outraged by the Shutoral arrogance, delegates to the ODC demanded a response. A decision was made to counter the Shutoral ploy by issuing a new ODC currency, first a 10 credit note, known as "the Virgin Mary", bearing the likeness of Polly Watt, a fourteen year old farm girl who was killed attacking a Nutrocker that had invaded her farm in Nels Gap. The 10 credit note was quickly followed by the 50 credit "Blood Chit" featuring Kathy Gens, a middle-aged housewife who was killed coming to the aid of injured civilians who were under attack by Nuespotter units during the battle for New Canberra.
