A Battalion HQ is a unit which co-ordinates all the other elements of a Battalion. As such, it usually has other Company and Platoon HQ's under its control.
This headquarters has more of a strategic role than a combat one, rarely getting into combat unless absolutely necessary (which usually means that the HQ is about to be over run by a surprise attack). A Battalion HQ is an infantry squad, although this doesn't mean that it may only control other infantry units. Instead, the Battalion HQ is usually the main headquarters unit for most Battalion organisations. Rules wise, a Battalion HQ functions like, and has all the same statistics as a normal Company HQ. In times of trouble, it may also take over as a Company or Platoon HQ if needed as well. A Battalion HQ costs 10 VP. One main difference though, is that if a Battalion HQ is destroyed, not all units under its command will automatically be broken. Any platoons that fall directly under the command of the HQ will be broken as normal, but any Company that has their own HQ squad (and in the TOE's, this doesn't actually have to mean an Infantry HQ squad, Company HQ's can come in many shapes and forms) must instead make a Morale Roll as if it was Broken. A successful result will mean that the Company may still function as normal, while a failure will result in the Company being broken as normal. This represents a Companies ability to function on its own if need be. On the strategic side though, things may look very different. |
