Weather doesn't play a huge role in Australia, but when the war gets truly global, it starts to have an impact, especially against laser units, and this is one reason why some vehicles (like the Pkh.103 Nutrocker) have several variants that sport conventional weapons. Lasers don't work too well in anything other than perfect conditions.
When weather is being used, it should be decided upon before the game, or else it will be stated in a scenario. It won't change during a game unless specified by a scenario. The following weather conditions are found across the globe.
Light Rain: Light rain only effects laser armed units. All laser armed units have a -2 to-hit modifier.
Heavy Rain: In addition to effecting laser armed units, rain turns the ground to mud making it harder to traverse for walking and conventional vehicles. Finally, it starts to block visibility making it more difficult to spot units. All laser armed units may not fire their lasers in heavy rain, all W and C movement vehicles have a -1 to their movement code, and when spotting, the observation level for all units with a LOS is dropped by one level. This does not effect electronic spotting units (such as the SAFS R Raccon or NS465 Neuspotter).
Fog: Fogs effects both laser armed units and visibility for spotting. All laser armed units have a -2 to-hit modifier, and when spotting, the observation level for all units with a LOS is dropped by one level. This does not effect electronic spotting units (such as the SAFS R Raccon or NS465 Neuspotter).
Snow on Ground: When there has been snow on ground, walking and conventional vehicles tend to move slower due to getting bogged down. All W and C movement vehicles have a -1 to their movement code.
Snowing: When it is lightly snowing, laser armed units and spotters are penalised. Heavy snow effects laser armed units, spotters and slows down move vehicle types. Snow doesn't effect laser armed units as much as rain or fog though, which is generally good news. Light snow gives all laser armed units a -1 to their to-hit modifier. In heavy snow, all laser armed units are at a -3 to their to-hit roll, all W and C movement vehicles have a -1 to their movement code, and when spotting, the observation level for all units with a LOS is dropped by one level. This does not effect electronic spotting units (such as the SAFS R Raccon or NS465 Neuspotter).
The weather table: The weather conditions are summarised in the following table.
Laser modifiers are only applied to units with laser weapons, and only when the laser is fired - an HAFS Goblin would not get the modifier when firing rockets for example. It does apply to laser armed aircraft as well. The Observation modifier only applies to the level for which units have an LOS to it - it never applies to units with electronic gear that are spotting, such as the SAFS R Raccon or NS465 Neuspotter. |
