When the Mercenaries launched their major counter-offensive against the Shutoral forces in 'Operation Super Hammer', they hadn't counted on the Shutoral use of spy satellites and the operation was generally considered a failure.
Thus the Mercenaries realised that they had to destroy the threat of the satellites before another offensive could be considered, and 'Operation Peel Banana' was launched with the intent to get rid of these satellites. The newest weapon in the Mercenaries arsenal - the SAFS Space Type Fireball - was launched into orbit via Banana Boat transports and there they would destroy the satellites and then be picked up by Mercenary Salvage Frigates where they would be refuelled and rearmed.
After the first few such missions, the Shutorals managed to get their defences organised and shooting down satellites became slightly harder with some aggressive resistance.
Date: November 2885
Map: Use the blank space map. A floating map may be used if desired.
Setup: The SDR:
The SDR set up their Sternails along one edge of the map. They have 2 thrust to the rear. The Mercenaries:
The Mercenaries start along the opposite edge of the map to the SDR forces. They may have up to 4 thrust to the rear if desired.
Game length: 10 turns
Victory conditions: The object is for the Mercenaries to destroy the SDR spy satelites, however, to do that, they must first destroy the SDR Sternails. As such, the Mercenaries win if they drive off the Sternails or destroy them and have at least one SAFS Fireball surviving (the Prowler is unarmed and thus not able to destroy the satelites). The SDR must stop the Mercenary forces. Any unit leaving the map before the victory conditions are met is deemed to have left the play area and is out of the game and considered destroyed for victory conditions.
Special rules: This is a space scenario and thus follows all the found in the Space Combat section. |
