Image copyright by Kow Yokoyama. The Trydent was the first attempt at an underwater capable suit by the Mercenary forces. It consisted of a specially modified AFS Mk II designed to be water and pressure resistant for use in deep seas. It was then fitted with a removal backpack device that contained the hydrojet propulsion unit. The Trydent was launched from the Neptune submarine, and when used in amphibious operations, the backpack would be dropped on dry land to enable the AFS to operate as well as its land brethren.
