The Kauz was developed with an entirely enclosed cockpit, to make up for the primary weakness of the Fliege - the viewing window. The Kauz is based on the space type P.K.A Fliege. While the Fliege was in no way inferior in offensive power when compared to the SAFS, it lacked defensive capability due in part to the front window being retained because of a lack of an indirect targeting system. The Kauz corrected this shortcoming and with the addition of a scouting radar it was the equal of the Mercenary Space SAFS Fireball. These units led the SDR space forces at the ratio of 1 Kauz to 4 Fleiges forming one platoon.
