The New Fireball was an attempt to increase the effectiveness of the standard Fireball and is actually based on that model and not the Fireball SG. The body was strengthened and the optical sensors were increased in power. The fuel tanks were expanded and stretched around the waist. In addition, large thrusters units were attached to the legs and these could be detached should the New Fireball need to land on the lunar surface. 3 machines were made on an experimental basis and sent in on a raid on the lunar surface, but these machines were lost in action. The units were deemed to be of insufficient combat effectiveness due to a lack of actual combat data, and the model was shelved.
